The major energy companies shift toward natural gas production from 1986 through 1999 the share of natural gas in the majors (companies reporting to EIAs Financial Reporting System) worldwide oil and gas production (on an energy-equivalent basis) steadily increased from 33 percent to 46 percent and in the United States the comparable rise was from 38 percent to 52 percent.
